Iranian Officials Outraged as Another Colleague Assassinated
Iranian officials were reacting with hysterical outrage Thursday following a brazen assassination of one of their colleagues, Basij forces commander Abdolhossein Mojaddami, who was leaving his home in Khuzestan province on Wednesday morning when two masked men rode up on a motorcycle and shot him to death in front of his own front door. The assassination of a senior regime figure was noted by analysts who speculated that it might be a sign that fear of the regime, which has for so long held opposition groups in abeyance, may be rapidly eroding.

The hit also came on a day when U.S. special representative for Iran Brian Hook told London-based the Arabic-language daily newspaper Asharq al-Awsat that if newly appointed Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force commander Esmail Ghaani “follows the same path of killing Americans then he will meet the same fate" as his predecessor, Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US air strike earlier this month.

"This isn't a new threat. The president has always said that he will always respond decisively to protect American interests," Hook said. "I think the Iranian regime understands now that they cannot attack America and get away with it."
